PGE Charging Stations

Portland General Electric is a leading energy provider in the Northwest, and was looking to be a national leader in transportation electrification by establishing a network of electric vehicle charging stations. These are the “gas stations” of the future, and needed to be easily recognizable to potential users while also appealing to drivers who might transition to electric vehicles in the future. I was lucky enough to lead the team that helped make it happen.

With so many small or unknown providers installing stations, we understood PGE had the advantage of being an established, well-respected brand. As we developed the work, we wanted to ensure these station designs would be an extension of the PGE brand, reassuring consumers that they were using services from a provider they could count on.

We explored a number of approaches, ultimately narrowing to the design that debuted at stations in the City of Milwaukie and at TriMet’s Sunset Transit Center. The reveal of these new stations coincided with the launch of the Full Clean Ahead strategic campaign we also developed, which promoted PGE’s plans for a clean energy future.

The new design helped elevate the brand experience and electric mobility focus of PGE and continues to be work people are talking about. Today, PGE is operating seven electric charging locations with more on the way.
